Film Screening of Out of My Comfort Zone
Experience the award-winning coming-of-age musical film Out of My Comfort Zone on the big screen at The Colonial in this free special screening and filmmaker Q&A event. Set to an original, contemporary score, the story follows two lifelong friends whose relationship is tested by hidden feelings, questions of identity and the very real pressures of adolescence. When a cyberbully threatens to expose their deepest secrets, they’re forced to confront the truth—and find the courage to be themselves. Honest, emotional and ultimately hopeful, the film explores friendship, self-discovery and what it means to grow up in a world where everything feels high-stakes.
With echoes of Love, Simon, Dear Evan Hansen and High School Musical, Out of My Comfort Zone brings heartfelt storytelling and original songs together in a way that feels both relatable and inspiring for teens and young adults. The film has earned major festival recognition worldwide, including Best Musical Feature, Best LGBTQ Feature and Best Original Score, and features performances by Will Ehren, Violet Vale, Igby Rigney (The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass), and Savannah Leroy.
Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a live conversation with filmmakers Ivy Vale and Rick Reil, who will share insights into the making of the film and take questions from the audience. Designed to spark conversation and connection, this special event offers teens a chance to see themselves reflected on screen—and to hear directly from the creators about telling stories that center authenticity, courage and belonging. Admission is free, making it an accessible and meaningful night out for students, families and anyone who’s ever felt a little out of place.
