We will read “The Missing Mitten Mystery” by Steven Kellogg. Kids will then create a yarn snowman (can stand up or can be hung or used as an ornament next year!) Keep it simple or dress it up with sparkles and glitter!

Literacy & Educational Skills: Phonics, Inference. Knowledge and application.

Developmental skills: Listening to directions. Textural differences. Cutting and threading. Language production. Shapes and color recognition. Gross motor skills. Fine motor skills.

We will read “The Mitten” by Jan Brett. Then kids will create small snow globe magnets. You can build a winter scene or bring a photo of your child (2 inches by 2 inches), to decorate with snow, sparkly items, pom poms and more. This craft is a keeper!

February Craft Academy at the Colonial Theatre
Crafting fun over February vacation! 

CuttingTuesday, February 21, 2017 – 9:30am-11:30am
Ages 3-5

Kids will spend time on fine motor skills mainly cutting items. They will practice cutting shapes of all colors and textures to create a scene on poster board of their choice: a winter walk, summer fun, autumn woods, or springtime in New England.

All materials including markers, crayons, glitter, foam, stickers, paper, tin foil, yarn, and some pre-cut shapes will be provided.

DecoupageWednesday, February 22, 2017 – 9:30-11:30am
Ages 6-9

Kids will practice fine motor skills and create a decoupage item. Students will find and cut pictures that represent their personalities and then adhere them to a small item of their choice! A final seal will keep it in great shape for a long time!

All materials including pictures, glue, sealant, scissors, paint and items like plates and boxes will be provided.

SewingThursday, February 23, 2017 – 9:30-11:30am
Ages 10-13

Kids will learn the important skill of sewing! Using felt and fabric, kids will learn 2 different stitches and hand sew a small decorative pillow or plush toy of their own design.

All materials including needles and thread, iron-on adhesive and fabric, felt and stuffing will be provided.

Berkshire Theatre Group Announces Auditions for 
12th Annual Community Theatre Production

Pittsfield, MA–Berkshire Theatre Group seeks child and adult actors, musicians, backstage crew, technical support, usher staff and parent volunteers to participate in its upcoming Annual Community Theatre Production, directed by Travis G. Daly. The roles and positions are open to third graders, through adults.

Rehearsals for the Annual Community Theatre Production will begin on Tuesday, May 30th in Pittsfield, MA. This year’s production will be performing for four and a half weeks, from Thursday, July 6th through Sunday, August 6th at The Colonial Theatre, with a total of 37 performances. 


Audition times:

Sunday, February 5 from 11AM-2PM
Monday, February 6 from 6PM-9PM

All auditions will take place at:

The Colonial Theatre
111 South Street
Pittsfield, MA 01201

Student auditions will be held during the first two hours of each session and the last hour will be for adults. Adults should be prepared to sing only 16 bars of a song and bring the accompanying sheet music that is in the key in which they prefer to sing. Callbacks will take place as needed.

BTG Youth Advisory Board

As part of our ongoing efforts to support children's interest in the arts, we established the Youth Advisory Board in 2010. This Board which features high school students from across the county, meets periodically to discuss upcoming events, makes suggestions for artists of interest to young audiences and assists with activities at the theatres including distribution of information, creation of videos and social media networking.

BTG PLAYS! School Vacation and Summer Camps

BTG PLAYS! Summertime classes are offered during the summer vacation months and held at the Berkshire Theatre Festival campus in Stockbridge, MA, or The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, MA.  Each one week session culminates in a final performance.  Registration is required. Scholarships are available through the Richie duPont Award. Students must apply.
